Self-driving cars is an expanding industry. Several companies are jumping on the technology train in order to not be left behind. Within the next several years, we're likely to see more of these cars around. From recent news, this even includes competitive racing. At the Formula E Buenos Aires ePrix, RoboRace showed off a race between two self-driving cars. It was the first official race of its kind in the world.

RoboRace has a goal of pushing self-driving technology to the limits in high performance cars. The demonstration did have plenty of promise. The cars reportedly reached speeds of 115 mph. Unfortunately, there are no official videos online right now. Also, one of the vehicles wrecked into a barrier during the race. Regardless, it was an effective test of what the future can hold.

RoboRace intends to eventually have a fully competitive sport. By the end, the company expects the sport to consist of races between mechanically identical cars. The only difference between competitors will be the software controlling the vehicles. That way, we are left with an intense and constantly evolving auto sport. Whether or not it ends up that way is another story.
