The shift of a new era is starting. The 2023 Acura Integra hatchback has launched, and with it, the last gas-powered vehicle from the automaker.

According to a report by Automotive news, the 2023 Integra will be the last vehicle launch by the brand that features a combustion engine. The information follows an interview with Emile Korkor, the assistant vice president of national sales for Acura. Korkor describes the model as an exciting opportunity to reinforce their loyal fanbase before making the final dedicated push towards electrification.

It’s not like we didn’t see this coming. It was reported back in December that Acura was going to skip the hybrid electric phase and instead jump right into becoming a fully electric company. And we know the jump will happen as soon as the next year or two, since the first example will be an electric SUV for the 2024 model year using the Ultium platform.

This is an interesting time to be watching the industry. Everyone recognizes the potential of electric cars and the need to adapt if they wish to survive the markets. Everyone’s strategies for coping have been interesting, Acura’s included. We look forward to seeing who will take the lead in these coming years. Admittedly, we’re also pretty sick of Elon Musk and can’t wait to see Tesla no longer be the leader of electric cars.
