We hope you weren’t expecting to get to Vegas TOO quickly. Virgin Hyperloop has decided to scrap the possibility of having passenger pods for their ulta-fast rail system.

These are tough times for the Hyperloop. According to a report by Financial Times on Friday, the company had to fire 111 employees. They explained to FT that this is part of a new direction they are taking. The change is inspired by the claim that customer interest leaned further toward cargo delivery than toward passenger transport.

For those out of the loop (ha), The Virgin Hyperloop is a theorized transit system capable of speeds up to 670 mph. The common example given is the possibility of going from the east to the west coast of America in under an hour.

While this news may be upsetting for standard citizens hoping to experience a more efficient form of transit, this comes as little surprise to us. Whenever major developments are in progress, it will also be changed to fit a more profitable alternative. That’s the nature of American capitalism, after all.

And to be perfectly candid, we’re still not super confident that the Hyperloop will ever grow to fruition, cargo only or otherwise.
