In an announcement by Formula 1 organizers and the city of Hanoi, Vietnam, on Wednesday, the very first Vietnamese Grand Prix will be taking place in 2020.

This is the first new location announced by Formula 1's owner Liberty Media. The company has had the country in mind for expansion for a while now and is now their first step in their long-term strategy to broaden the sport worldwide.

To pave the way for the series, a new 3.5-mile street circuit will be built in the center of Hanoi. The track will be designed by famous F1 racetrack architect Hermann Tilke. It's said to take notes from tracks around the world, such as Monaco, Suzuka Circuit, and the Nürburgring. part of this track will be a full mile long straight track, as well.

This announcement follows the reveal of Vinfast, a new automaker based in the same country. They are part of the Vingroup organization, a recently added promoter of the new F1 race.
