One of the major tenets of car modification is how fast it can go. Some build for luxury, some build for utility, the rest build for power. One company with just such a goal has taken a Factory Five 818C kit car and thrown in a powertrain from a Tesla Model S and a Chevrolet Volt. The results are fast. I'm talking about "9.5-second quarter mile" fast.

The Ontario-based company EV-Controls acquired the 818C kit from Factory Five. The front and rear wheels were given electric motors from a Tesla P85D, powered by two 32-kwh battery packs from the Chevrolet Volt. The entire electric powertrain works together smoothly through a T1-C controller, an item of EV-Control's own design.

The running gear came from a Subaru, and a set of JDM-spec STI spindles (and associated brakes) were fitted to the car. The final product is this speed-lethal frankencar.

In the video viewable above, we see the vehicle manage an impressive 1,320-foot distance in exactly 9.565 seconds. It had achieved a max speed of just over 134 miles per hour. This is an amazing example of the potential that lies in wait for electric motorsports.
