Tesla has established themselves as the premier name in electric automobiles. Such acclaim comes with a greater risk of espionage. This is why the company is suing a former employee for $167 million over stealing confidential photos and video.

It began last summer when Tesla announced that they are pursuing former employee Martin Tripp for allegedly stealing confidential media of the company's manufacturing system, as well as other trade secrets. It's not coming out that they're seeking $167 million for damages.

The lawsuit also includes attempts to recruit other employees against the company, and for providing false information to the media. This is in reference to last spring when Tripp reportedly claimed that Tesla was selling unsafe batteries into Tesla Model 3 cars.

Tesla is refuting Tripp's claims, stating that his actions have affected the stock price of the company negatively. This is the main source of their damages claim. They also believe that Tripp's backlash is the result of his being passed over for promotion at the factory.

It's not clear, nor official, which side of this battle is the right one. Stay tuned.
