There’s yet another unconventional and somewhat controversial product under Elon Musk’s belt. This time, it’s booze. Electric automaker Tesla has recently launched their own brand of tequila.

The automaker launched the alcohol on Thursday with their own offsite, Teslatequila.tesla.com. Those fast enough to visit the site were able to order the spirit, which came in a lightning bolt shaped bottle. And like many Tesla products, it wasn’t cheap, costing $250 a bottle. Not that it matters at this point, since the product almost immediately sold out.

Tesla doesn’t produce the alcohol, mind you. The actual beverage is produced by Nosotros Tequila, a known brand based in Southern California.

We can’t even be surprised by this. We should have seen it coming, since Tesla head Musk posted about the project idea nearly two years ago, calling it “Teslaquila” at the time.

Musk had raised eyebrows in the past with his merchandise antics. This included a pair of shorts poking fun at Tesla stock prices and “not a flamethrower.” This particular product has a somewhat different implication, however. Regardless of who you are, a car manufacturer also selling alcohol seems like a somewhat immoral message to send. There are over 10,000 deaths a year relating to drunk driving, after all.

If you were lucky enough to get a hold of a bottle of Teslaquila, congrats! We hope you drink responsibly. If you do, let us know how it tastes.
