Porsche is keeping up with modern technology with a recent delivery to dealership technicians. Said technicians recently were given augmented reality AR glasses to assist them with their work, reducing service times up to 40 percent.

The glasses are called Tech Look Live. This allows technicians to gain access to information and live experts while actively working on a vehicle. It also gives these experts a first-person look at what the technician is dealing with, allowing for a more accurate diagnosis. This allows for a newfound level of teamwork between professionals.

The glasses item itself is comprised of two major technological components, the ODG (Osterhout Design Group) R-7 smartglasses and the AiR Enterprise software platform from Atheer, Inc.

The AR glasses program began in 2017. After initial feedback and the needed changes therein, the company opened enrollment for the service two months ago. This week, the first three dealerships will receive Tech Look Live with plans for 75 additional dealers to receive the technology by the end of 2018. Porsche believes most of its 189 of its U.S. dealers will feature the technology in 2019.
