Tesla might have some serious competition on the way. The California-based startup Lucid Motors has recently unveiled its 1,000 horsepower Air luxury car and took it for some laps. The Air was taken to the Transportation Research Center’s 7.5-mile high speed oval in Ohio where it set a top speed mark of 217 miles per hour, beating the new Ford GT by 1 mile per hour.

On top of that, Lucid said that the top speed of the car was electronically limited, insinuating that the vehicle could have gone even faster. For example, the Tesla Model S P100D has a 155 miles per hour limiter, so we have no idea how fast that car could actually go. In addition to having a high top speed, the Air can go from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and has the world’s longest battery pack at 130 kilowatt-hours. It has a range of about 400 miles per charge, while Tesla’s best battery has a range of about 335 miles per charge.

The top-tier model of the Air is expected to go on sale in 2019 for over $100,000 if everything goes according to plan, and for $60,000 you can pick up a shorter range version without all the bells and whistles.
