When Writers Drive Supercars

Jason R. Latham, writer for Vegas Seven spent 15 minutes in McLaren's 570GT, priced at $200k, and wrote about it.

Wouldn't you?

Of course, he didn't drive the vehicle, because unless you're wealthy, you're probably a liability. He did, however get to ride shotgun in the 2017 model and got to "hit 89 miles per hour in less time than it takes to get the 'Skip Ad' option on a YouTube video."

For the record, it really does take forever to get that option. Fix it YouTube.

Now, the supercar fanatics out there are probably wondering why only 89 mph. Latham stated his driver, Steven Kenny was being modest—the top speed is 204 mph.

Go Ahead, Buy It

The McLaren 570GT is currently at the Chicago Motor Cars Las Vegas, where Kenny is the director of sales and marketing. The place is filled with a lineup of pre-owned high-end vehicles, from Lambo to Aston Martin.

Of course, Kenny offered to let Latham drive the car back to the showroom, to which Latham agrees after some questioning.

The Driving Experience

He drove cautiously, at a grandmother approved 35 mph, before Kenney insisted he speed it up a bit. Showrooms do close, you know.

The top speed for the day was 44 mph, as a cautious, near-sighted Latham drove in traffic, and it got us wondering: what would most people do in a $200k+ supercar? Would we all freeze, and consider the 44 mph to be fast? Or would we gun it to the showroom, hitting 90 mph?
