General Motors is serious about automotive electrification. So much so, in fact, that they’ve updated their logo to better represent this ideal.

The auto giant unveiled a new logo last week. While keeping the signature “GM” letters, they’ve swapped them out for the lowercase variants. Using a blocky-yet-curved font, outlined by a square border it also features a gradient blue color.

GM explains that the new logo is to represent a future of zero emissions, zero crashes, and zero congestion. This includes a commitment toward electrification, saying that the lowercase “m” looks similar to an electrical power plug. Deborah Wahl, head of marketing at GM, had this to say.

“Unlike ever before, we have the solutions, capability, technology and scale to put everyone in an EV. Our new brand identity and campaign are designed to reflect this.”

The brand has the product to back the claims, as well. GM has put a lot of stock in the Ultium Modular EV Platform. It’s capable of up to 1,000 horsepower and a 450-mile range. The platform will hit markets for the first time as the 2022 GMC Hummer EV. After that, the platform will underpin nearly 30 different EVs produced under GM in the following three years.

GM is clearly dedicated to creating a powerful electric platform. Should EVs truly turn out to be the future, then this may set them as the real leader of the automotive race for the upcoming generation. Time will tell.
