BlueLA, a program in Los Angeles, is getting electric cars into their city. The program is actually really great and it helps out in numerous ways. For example, cities like Los Angeles have extremely high rates of pollution caused by the constant stop-and-go traffic, as well as the amount of gasoline-powered vehicles. By releasing more electric cars into the streets, pollution rates will begin to decline and people will be much happier and healthier.

In addition to the green initiative being taken here, the program is also trying to get these cars into the hands of low-income households. It's basically like a very cheap and affordable rent-a-car business. People that qualify can go in and use the vehicles for however long they need. Certain people can drive the car around the city for only a 80 cents per minute, adding up to about $48 an hour. These households tend to not have vehicles and the homeowners must rely on public transportation or no transportation at all.

By allowing them to use cars to get around for little cash means that they will not have to rely on public transportation every single day. They can use the car for a short amount of time, return it, and all is good in the world. A similar program is also being started up in Chicago for the same reason. Hopefully these programs continue to spread across the country so all low-income households have the opportunity to use vehicles, while also saving the good ole' environment at the same time!
