Get Some Gas, Meet A Race Car Driver

Yes, common folk at an Adelaide gas station got the surprise of their lives when Austrailia's most popular race car driver, Craig Lowndes showed up on Tuesday.

And he didn't just show up to fill up, he showed up to fill other people's tanks, and give them free tickets and take pictures. His pit crew was with him as well, servicing the vehicles by checking tires.

Generating Interest

In case you're not aware, Lowndes is a sponsor for Caltex, so he often visits one of its service stations to surprise drivers. It helps promote supercar events.

This time, it was to generate interest in the Clipsal 500, which takes place from today, March 2nd, to March 5th at the Adelaide Street Circuit. Tickets go between $39 and $135, depending on what type you're getting.

The event is historical at this point, as it is Australia's largest domestic motor sport event. This is the eighteenth race to be held in Adelaide.
