The Bonneville Salt Flats has a new champion: a modified 2019 Volkswagen Jetta.

The Jetta broke a speed record, achieving 210 mph. It was built by Bonneville preparations specialists THR Manufacturing. The cabin was broken down into nothing but the essentials, while a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine was rested comfortably under the hood. Install a high-flow exhaust system and improved internals, the vehicle can push out as much as 600 horsepower.

Volkswagen Group of America head Hinrich J. Woebcken spoke about the achievement. He explained that while the 2019 Jetta went under a redesign, the current model doesn't offer a 2.0-liter turbo option just yet. Though it will be in the future.

“This record underlines the sporty credentials of our all-new Jetta and also gives a hint at the future of the GLI model, since this car uses a modified version of the GLI’s powerful EA888 2.0-liter TSI engine.”

Congratulations to Volkswagen and their team for the accomplishment.
