You normally have to mess up rather badly to be arrested for a business decision. Unfortunately, head of Porsche powertrains Jörg Kerner has done exactly that. Kerner was arrested on Friday in relation to the Volkswagen Group's diesel scandal.

The scandal has been under investigation by Germon police for a while now. After a raid of the Porsche offices as part of a wide probe into suspected fraud and false advertising relating to the issue, A diesel engine offered in the Porsche Cayenne was found to contain the emissions cheating software.

Porsche R&D chief Wolfgang Hatz was arrested last September for involvement in the scandal, and he remains in jail while the investigation continues. An Audi executive, believed to be Giovanni Pamio, was also arrested last July.

These investigations have continued to climb further up the chain, as high as former Volkswagen Group CEO and Porsche leader Matthias Müller. He was supposedly involved in a potential market manipulation regarding the speed in which information concerning the scandal was shared with shareholders. He would later be replaced by Herbert Diess, a former BMW exec generally considered uninvolved since he joined the VW Group a few months prior to the scandal becoming public in September of 2015.

This hasn't stopped at just Germany. Two United States Volkswagen executives have also been jailed for their involvement. One was James Liang, sentenced to 40 months last August. The other was Oliver Schmidt, sentenced to seven years last December.
