Two individuals were arrested over the weekend after being found street racing in Yakima, Washington. Washington State Patrol troopers apprehended the suspects and they currently reside in the Yakima County Jail.

A trooper in an unmarked Aggressive Driving Apprehension Team vehicle witnessed a large number of cars known for racing traveling in a group. When the 11 racers entered the SR 12, they boosted up to speeds of 90 mph. Associates also blocked both westbound lanes to prevent interference from local drivers.

Through a coordinated effort, the police were able to apprehend the 2 lead racers, as well as the ones obstructing traffic. The two racers were charged with Reckless Driving, and their vehicles impounded. The remaining nine drivers were issued citations regarding their excessive speed.

Racing is considered a reckless driving offense and is a gross misdemeanor which is punishable by a jail term of up to 364 days and/or a fine of up to $5,000 as well as a possible suspension of driving privileges.

Leave the street races to the movies, eh?
