When we see a sleeper, it's usually a plain looking pickup truck pushing massive power. But this time, it's something much older mixed with something much newer. This rusty clunker is secretly a Tesla.

On the outside, it looks like a rusted, old 1949 Mercury Coupe. But if you look under the hood, you'll find a fully electric powertrain pushing 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of instantaneous torque. Instead of a gas tank, you'll find an 85-kilowatt-hour Tesla Performance battery array.

Built by Icon, the Mercury had to be entirely disassembled to fit the powertrain properly. They even added in two different charging systems. The first, a CHAdeMO 125A fast-charging plug, is hidden behind the front license plate. The other is a traditional Tesla supercharger plug where the gas cap is located.

The interior cabin also saw some modern improvements. Almost everything has been custom made, keeping the original designs in mind. This includes the digital gauges fashioned to imitate the classic analog dials. To keep the age alive, none of the rust or wear from the exterior body was treated.

The vehicle was a bespoke commission for an unnamed client. The cost of the project was likely a very expensive one.
