It's hard to beat the king of class. But after five years without change, perhaps its time that the Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets a new look. New photos of the 2020 model show some impressive tech, and even a massive digital touch screen.

A series of photos have been published by MotorTrend, originating by car spyshot company CarPix, of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. While we've seen the exterior of the car before, this is the first time we're getting a good look at the cabin. Smack dab in the center of it is a hard-to-miss digital touch screen, similar to that seen in the Tesla.

A closer look at the images implies that the screen might not be as large as it first seems. It appears to have a decent sized bezel surrounding it, as well as capacitive touch buttons lining the bottom. Unlike the Tesla, the screen merges smoothly in with the central console. We also notice that the volume knob isn't immediately visible. It's possible that the knob has been moved out of sight, but it's even more likely to have been replaced with an on-screen alternative.

The driver won't have to re-accommodate much, at least. The scroll wheel on the steering wheel still can control volume. Though the physical buttons have been replaced with this system, Mercedes-Benz appears to have kept the shift lever.

It looks like there's still a long way to go before the new model will enter production. We look forward to the formal reveal, whenever that is.
