Since 1974, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion has honored a selection of automakers at their events. And for the first time, a Japanese company will be honored. Nissan, to be precise.

The annual Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion celebrates motorsport history in this multi-day, annual event. An approximate 550 racing vehicles are brought together to display, perform, and showcase the heritage of the classic pastime. Each accepted entry is scrutinized for their authenticity, historical significance, and racing potential. Barry Toepke, vice president of communication and historic racing at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, remarked on the surprise feature Nissan is receiving at this year's event.

"Never before has a Japanese automaker been so honored. We wanted to change that course and feature Nissan and Datsun because the brands resonate internationally and have fully established their racing pedigree."

Over 50 Nissan and Datsun models will be competing in the RMMR races on the Laguna Seca track. Though a particular few have caught our eyes. The 300ZX Turbo that won the Daytona and Le Mans races under the control of Steve Millen, the BRE Datsun 240Z Hall of Fame vehicle driven by John Morton, and even Adam Carolla's SCCA National GT-1 Championship 300ZX Turbo, driven by Paul Newman.

A number of notable Nissans will be at the event but off the track. This includes the 1971 and 1972 winning BRE Datsun 510 SCCA driven by John Morton, the GTP ZX-Turbo that Geoff Brabham raced and won eight consecutive IMSA titles in, Bob Sharp's four-time SCCA C-Production Champion 240Z, and more.

This event will also host the United States debut of the GT-R50 by Italdesign.

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion will take place during Monterey Car Week, running from August 18 to 26.
