If you're a Ferrari engineer, you could probably call yourself the breadwinner of the house. But that's even more true with Niels van Roij Design, who developed a modernized Ferrari Breadvan.

The Dutch firm announced last week that they plan to build a modern remastering of the iconic car. They're previously known for developing the Tesla Model S shooting brake.

The fresh Breadvan will be built over a donor Ferrari 550 Maranello. While not the newest model to work with, the firm made a point to choose that specific model. Much like the 250 GT, which the original Breadvan is based on, the 550 Maranello is the first car in 25 years to feature a front engine layout with a V-12.

We've only seen renderings so far. But from this, we see a modern, wedge-like, sharp design. The interesting shape pays tribute to the original Breadvan and it's attempt at creating a more aerodynamic vehicle. The original design was the result of Count Volpi di Misurata commissioning the car to compete against the 250 GTO SWB Competition model.

The firm is currently in the fabrication process. Here they will separate the rear end from the rest of the vehicle. Ever panel will be modified and replaced accordingly, resulting in a virtually new car.

Niels van Roij Design strives to have the vehicle ready for showing by late summer of 2019.
