Apple, being on the forefront of technology whenever they can, is looking to get into the Auto market whenever they can. This is why the company has teamed up with Volkswagen Group to develop a modernized Microbus for Apple's upcoming self-driving service.

We can expect to see a number of T6 Transporter vans outfitted with Apple's self-driving technology around their two campuses in the Silicon Valley. Converted to run on electric power, the car will still have a driver behind the wheel, should it need to be taken over. We actually saw the vehicle not long ago. Last year, VW Group unveiled the concept by their MOIA mobility group. Though it didn't have self-driving technology at the time.

Apple isn't as ready for the program as VW Group is, however. According to reports, the program is behind schedule and the tech company is otherwise preoccupied with just their employee shuttle service. They initially considered a vehicle manufacturing site in the United States, but the program never took off due to how difficult and capital-intensive building cars is.

Right now, Apple is behind in the self-driving car service race, competing with companies like Waymo and General Motors. Both of them plan to start launching their businesses in the next couple years.
