There's a certain value in being "classic" when it comes to vehicles. Even so, every automaker will find itself in need of a rebranding. This time, Volkswagen, shortly after electing their new CEO, is looking to update their logo.

According to the automaker's chief marketing officer, Jochen Sengpiehl, the company is looking for a logo to help the brand appear more approachable. It also must signify the "technological innovations that will help VW command higher prices for vehicles in the future." We can expect ad agencies to pitch ideas over the next few months, with a new logo ready for next year.

“The big challenge is: How do we get people into the electric world. We want people to have fun with us. We need to get more colorful. the brand is not in good shape compared to previous years.”

The last time we saw VW update their look was in 2012, though its design looks strikingly similar to its previous look established in 2000. Since electrification is a major change for the company, we might expect a major change in the logo's form as well.

A Volkswagen electric I.D. hatchback is due to launch in 2020, with an electric SUV not far behind. With additional effort being made toward autonomous driving, the automaker is charging full force towards a sci-fi modern future as soon as 2025.
