Now we REALLY know that the future of automobiles is electric. Cadillac has revealed their first electric vehicle at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It's called the 2020 XT6 crossover SUV.

The sleek SUV bears a resemblance to the Escala concept car shown off in 2016. It has a combination of futurism and minimalism in its interior design, with simplified looks accented by multiple digital screens. Underneath the skin, however, is the new modular EV platform General Motors revealed last Friday.

There's no certainty that we will actually see it in 2020. Previous reports indicate a launch sometime in 2021, correlating with Cadillac's previous goals of releasing a new model every six months for the next two years.

Cadillac has properly embraced the wave of electrification on the market. GM is looking to make the brand their head of EVs in an attempt to lure buyers away from Tesla vehicles.

The secret to this will be through GM's modular EV platform. It uses a wide and flat battery along the floor to maximize space and offer greater miles in range while still functioning with everything from compact cars to large SUVs.
